Amira has grown and evolved. Initially known and widely used as the 3D visualization tool of choice in the Life Sciences research market, amira® has become a more and more sophisticated product, delivering powerful visualization and analysis capabilities in all visual simulation fields. Application areas such as Materials Science, Computer-Aided Engineering, Geoscience, and more, are becoming active adopters of the product.
In order to better address the demands of these diverse and
growing markets, Mercury Computer Systems has formed a wholly
owned subsidiary, Visage Imaging, focusing entirely on Visioneering
Science for Life. As part of that strategy, Visage Imaging will
drive the evolution of amira® as the leading visualization
framework for research applications in the Medical and Life Sciences
segments; for more detail see www.amira.com.
Amira 5, the next major release of amira, will become available in February 2008.
To highlight our specific commitment in the application areas other than Life Sciences, Mercury Computer Systems is introducing today a new product brand: Avizo™. Using the same great core software plus domain-specific extensions, Avizo will address market segments such as Engineering & Manufacturing, Non-Destructive Testing, Materials Science, Geosciences, and other industrial and scientific domains.
Avizo 5 is now available for Linux® and Windows®,
32- and 64-bit environments, with more platforms to be supported
soon. As an amira user working in one of the industry areas outside
of Life Sciences, if you have a current maintenance agreement you
will receive a free upgrade to the appropriate version of Avizo
5 including any extension modules.
